2 things you need before you press record
Let’s start with the basics, to create any video you are going to need 2 things before you press record. You are going to need something to record the moving images and an idea to communicate, usually a camera. In this article i will be looking at these two things in a little more depth to help you create more engaging and purposeful videos that sell.
The camera
“I don’t have a good enough camera!”
“I’ll do it when I’ve got …”
Sound familiar? Well let me stop you right there. We live in an age where most of us walk around with 4K cameras in our pockets and even basic smartphones do HD recordings. Even if you don’t have a smartphone I’m sure you can borrow one or even use an old video camera.
Think about it another way. Hollywood use cameras that cost as much as a house! Really! Some cinema cameras and lenses can cost well over £100k on jibs that cost thousand, but even Hollywood has massive flops.
And on the other end of the scale you have indie filmmakers competing on the big screen with budgets in the hundreds of pounds sometimes.
So it’s not about the gear or spending the most, its about the idea or the story and how you communicate it.
In short what you have is good enough. Smartphone, in a tripod with a light source behind the camera. If you want to know a bit more then watch this video.
But do not underestimate the power of working with what you have.
